General Information About the Sacrament at OLPH
1st Communion takes place on either last Sunday of April or the first Sunday of May during the 11:00am mass. 1st Reconciliation takes place in lent during the all parish penance service. Our program utilizes the Alive in Christ program published by Our Sunday Visitor. This content rich program offers our teachers and students one of the most well put together programs for religious education and very clearly communicates the teachings of the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church.
The Eucharist is the source and summit of our faith. It is God incarnate presented to us every week on the altar. In the Eucharist Christ penetrates or very soul and infuses us with His grace. This freely given gift of grace fortifies us against sin and prepares us to go out into the world proclaiming the Gospel message. It is this message that we communicate to our students as they prepare themselves to receive the body, blood, soul, and divinity of Jesus Christ.
The sacrament of reconciliation is a sacrament of conversion, forgiveness, healing, and redemption which allows us to go before God and the community to admit our wrong doings and be free of them. His yoke is easy and His burden is light. He invites us to come to Him in the sacrament and receive is grace. He invites us to free our soul and find peace in Him who longs only for our love and remembers our sins no more. For more information click here for the Catechism of the Catholic Church.
